Senior Systems Performance Engineer, High Availability

Opening is for a Senior Performance Engineer with strong recent experience with high availability, high volume systems. In this role you will work closely with software development, quality assurance, project management, product management, system administration and operations support staff to perform systems requirements analysis, hardware and software scaling, develop test plans and performance test high volume / high availability tax return processing systems.

You will work with development and technical operations to help design/modify the system to support the expected capacity, test the system hardware components to validate that design and test the system to verify that the system is highly available to customers under a variety of failure modes. You will develop test plans for clustered DB performance tests and reliability tests in which the test systems will be forced to fail over to and fail back from backup and contingency systems. You will develop performance test methodologies that will exercise the application/system with production-like behavior. You will develop test software that support those test paradigms, the tests will be run and monitored and the test results analyzed. You will communicate the test results to improve the availability of the application as well as application performance. You will utilize the expertise gained during the performance engineering, planning and testing to assist in identification and resolution of production problems. In addition, you will analyze behavioral differences between the performance and production environments and make adjustments to close any gaps.

Qualifications:

-BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.

-5+ years experience in performance engineering, software engineering, or quality engineering, recently with highly available large-scale client-server and web-based OLTP applications.

-Requirements, analysis and testing skills for distributed systems with a general understanding of n-tier application and web architecture.

-Strong understanding of system capacity, performance, reliability, availability and security issues.

-Proficiency with automated testing tools for web-based products such as Silk Performer.

-Proficiency with Windows Performance Counters and SAR metrics.

-General knowledge of MS Windows, HPUX, Solaris and Linux.

-Relational database (Informix, Oracle and/or SQL Server) knowledge and experience.

-Proficiency with Perl, C, C++, Java, and shell scripting.

-Knowledge of software development methodologies and practices.

-Networking knowledge a plus.

-Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

-Strong communication (verbal and written) and time management skills.

-Ability to multi-task, with the flexibility to change course frequently.

-Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations in a dynamic environment.
