DESCRIPTION

Position Purpose

To be the primary DBA for large SQL Server or Informix systems at Home Depot. Help implement robust database solutions, stabilize environment, and help developers with database issues. Candidate will work with data modeling and development teams to put processes and procedures in place to create new databases, replicate data across platforms, monitor and manage the databases in all life cycles, perform tuning and SQL analysis, provide space estimates, grant data level access privileges, and provide consultation to application development teams on design issues.

The Sr. DBA manages the physical data stores for the enterprise. This includes working with data modeling

and development teams to put processes and procedures in place to create new databases, replicate data

across platforms, monitor and manage the databases in production, perform tuning and SQL analysis,

provide space estimates and grant data level access privileges. The Sr. DBA designs, implements and

supports moderate size and complex enterprise projects with minimal supervision. The Sr. DBA has solid

knowledge about the specific database platform(s). Identifies, defines, and implements database

backup/recovery and security strategies as well as other monitoring activities. The Sr. DBA mentors and

trains other database administrators.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Create physical mid-sized database structures based on physical design for development, test, and

production environments. Partner with DBA's and provide guidance on lower level projects.

Work with system engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and mid-sized database

creation.

Configure and maintain DBMS product software on mid-sized database and application servers.

Provide guidance to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues, techniques and

SQL review.

Provide on-call support for databases 7 X 24 to include being able to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve database problems.

Mentor and train other database administrators across lower level projects.

Nature and Scope

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology

Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance

Environmental Job Requirements

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Preferred Qualifications

3 - 5 years of Informix database administration experience on the UNIX platform, or 3 - 5 years of SQL Server database administration experience on the windows platform.

AIX, HP-UX, scripting, awk, sed, windows operating system and programming experience preferred.

Must have excellent tutoring, organizational and project management skills.

Must be able to successfully work on multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.

Be results oriented.

BS Computer Science or related field, MS a plus.

Parallel Database DBA experience for Enterprise Data Warehouse on Unix.

4+ years of IT experience and 1-3 years of DBA experience.

Minimum 1 year of work experience in

managing and administrating large databases.

Database Administration Certification (scripting).

Working knowledge of data warehouse architecture, dimension modeling, and metadata management.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be eighteen years of age or older

Must pass the Drug Test

Must pass the Background Check

Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

Education Required

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high

school diploma and/or GED.
